If you go back into the mists of history you’ll find that newspaper regularly published points tables for the Olympic Games instead of the now familiar medal tables. So, using the formula that a few sporting bodies like the IAAF still occasionally use, here’s the Winter Olympic points table after day 1.
The scoring table is as follows;
1st 8 points
2nd 7
3rd 6
4th 5
5th 4
6th 3
7th 2
8th 1
If countries are level on points their single best result is the tiebreak.

The Canadian Dufour-Lapointe sisters just went 1-2 in the women’s moguls – Justine winning gold, with Chloe second for silver. Maxime missed out in the second round of the finals. Gold and silver by siblings in an individual event – ever happened before at the Olympics?
This has happened previously several times at the Olympics, includng 6 times at the Winter Olympics, by 5 sets of siblings. Here is the list of times it has occurred:
Brothers
John / Sumner Paine – pistol shooting 1896
Platt / Ben Adams – athletics standing high jump 1912
Nedo / Aldo Nadi – fencing sabre 1920
Jennison / Jack Heaton – skeleton 1928
Edoardo / Dario Mangiarotti – fencing épée 1952
Raimondo / Piero D’Inzeo – equestrian jumping 1960
Phil / Steve Mahre – Alpine skiing slalom 1984
Philipp / Simon Schoch – snowboard PGS 2006
Sisters
Christine / Marielle Goitschel – slalom / giant slalom 1964 (x2)
Doris / Angelika Neuner – luge 1992
There have been several other examples of two siblings on an individual podium, notably the Brownlee brothers, Alistair (gold) and Jonathan (bronze), in the men’s triathlon at London in 2012.
